About Atlanta Country Club

“Building On Tradition”

Atlanta's Finest Private Country Club

In 1964 a small group of  prominent Atlanta business leaders intent on building a world class golf course to attract a PGA tournament to the Atlanta area laid the foundation for the Atlanta Country Club. Amid the rolling hills just north of Atlanta, beside the ruins of an historic mill that once produced the paper for Confederate money, these men created a golf course that set a new benchmark of excellence for country clubs in Georgia. The picturesque rolling hills of the ACC are surrounded by Civil War sites, historic Sope Creek meanders through the course, and the Chattahoochee River is nearby.

After building a spectacular 7,018 yard championship golf course, ACC began hosting the “Atlanta Classic” in 1967. This PGA tour event was held annually at ACC for thirty years, except in 1974 when ACC became the site for the inaugural Tournament Players Championship, won by Jack Nicklaus. The course, consistently ranked as one of the top golf courses in the country, was originally designed by Willard C. Bryd. Over the years, modifications to the course have been made by Bob Cupp, Jack Nicklaus and most recently Mike Riley. The newest major changes came in 2001 with the redesign and renovation of all eighteen of the green complexes.

Throughout its history the uniquely challenging ACC course has played host to celebrity golfers and golf’s celebrities…from Bob Hope, Billy Graham, and President Gerald Ford to Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, and Hale Irwin. Club members include two-time PGA and U.S. Open champion Larry Nelson, five time Georgia Women’s Amateur Champion Janet Olp, and Georgia Sports Hall of Fame member Charlie Harrison. Bob Tway and Davis Love, III, grew up playing the course.

Exceptional Golf – is the essence of the Atlanta Country Club. Always challenging and exciting, it always rewards a well-played game. Avid golfers among our membership agree: The more you play our championship course, the more you appreciate it. We are proud of our heritage and excited about the future of Atlanta County Club.
