Golf at the Atlanta Country Club | | The heart of Atlanta Country Club is our world class golf course. Since 1968, Golf Digest and other distinguished national publications have consistently ranked the ACC course as one of “America’s 100 greatest Golf Courses.” We have a rich history of tournament participation, having hosted the PGA and USGA events. For 30 years we hosted the Atlanta Classic, a PGA event. The inaugural Tournament Players Championship, the USGA Women’s Amateur and Senior Men’s Amateur were also held at the Atlanta Country Club.
Since the beginning, our ACC golf professionals have exhibited the essence of golf. Davis Love Jr. (from 1965 to 1977) was a skilled player and world renowned teacher. John Gerring (from 1978 to 1992) is a Master Professional and was 1981 PGA Professional of the year. Bill Johnstone (from 1993 to 2009) is a well respected PGA Master Professional.
Mark Esoda, who has been our Golf Course Superintendent since 1990, received the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America’s 2009 Colonel John Morley Distinguished Service Award. First presented in 1932, the award is given to individuals who have made an outstanding, substantive and enduring contribution to the advancement of the golf course superintendent profession.
As you can see, Atlanta Country Club has a rich tradition and history in the world of golf, and a very exiting future as well.
In the coming months look for a hole-by-hole “course tour” allowing members of Atlanta Country Club to share the beauty of its championship golf course nestled in the rolling hills of Atlanta Georgia. |
